Elizabethan Era’s Fashion | Upper Class

Because of the Sumptuary Laws, the upper class and royalty of the Elizabethan Era were allowed to wear many luxurious types of clothing, unlike the middle or lower classes. The upper class and royals were permitted to wear clothing made out of different types of expensive and rare materials, such as fur, velvet, silk, lace, etc.

Elizabethan Era’s Fashion | Middle Class

The middle class in Elizabethan times were mainly rich people. Almost every person in the middle class wore hats in public, and both men and women enjoyed jewelry accessories. Both genders had gloves on when they go out to protect their hands.  Elizabethan era’s middle class women could wear clothing made out of broadcloth, linen, and cotton as well as wearing a chemise to protect their clothing from sweat and other bodily oils.

Elizabethan Era’s Fashion | Lower Class

People in the lower class were mainly poor people such as servants, market-people, and beggars, who did not have much money to spend on things such as clothing. As for, working women, they wear simple clothes because they couldn’t wear clothes that are visualized and have decoration. People in lower class usually wore clothes that is one-piece, and fitted to their body so that it shows with a waistline shape.

This Elizabethan festivals, holidays, and celebrations. But this is a wedding feast. During the Elizabethan era, people looked forward to holidays because opportunities for leisure were limited.

The Elizabethan era is a period of discoveries and change. It is a period where there is a huge change in politics, culture, and especially, religion. It is also when the first theater in London where Christopher Marlowe and William Shakepeare’s plays were shown. This is an important time in English history.
